Midsummer Nights

Reading Retreat

18 - 21 February, 2027

TASMANIA

A reading retreat for women who have been meaning to make time.

Four days. One private estate in Northern Tasmania. Nine women, a pile of books, and no homework.

Dreaming of the Cotswolds or Scottish Highlands?

We’ve found it, right here in northern Tasmania.

Do you dream of the English countryside and windswept moors? Of sweet English villages and endless cups of tea? Of grand estates with endless nooks and secret pathways to get lost in a good book? It’s closer than you think…

Join kindred spirits on our beautiful Midsummer Nights Reading Retreat for women, nestled in the foothills of the Great Western Tiers of Tasmania. This sanctuary is carved out by women, for women - a haven to reclaim yourself, tap into a deeper current of creative focus, and be spirited away to a place outside ordinary time.

Your curated reading stack awaits. Leave the madding crowd behind.

Cross the threshold and step into the realm of ideas…

From the moment you arrive at the magnificent Calstock Estate in northern Tasmania, every worldly demand falls away. A glass of champagne appears in your hand while luggage is whisked away to your room.

This retreat isn’t about itineraries.

For the next few days, your single, delightful duty is to exhale.

This retreat includes:

  • Airport transfers to and from Launceston Airport

  • Welcoming retreat hosts to take care of every little detail

  • A hushed air of magic created especially for women travellers

  • Gentle reading salons gathering fellow lovers of the written word, joined by a bestselling special guest author

  • Uninterrupted reading time

  • Boutique accommodations at a grand estate

  • Secret, walled gardens to wander, and mysterious paths to get lost in

  • Luxury lodgings with beds to sink into, guest amenities, each with private bathrooms

  • Meals include continental breakfasts, chef-prepared menus and visits to local favourites

  • Optional activities such as a wine tasting and lunch, forest bathing and a meandering river walk through the local village

  • A Kindred Spirits book bag full of goodies for the booklover

  • Sumptuous gifts from our favourite Tasmanian providores

  • A curated book stack including three leisurely reads to dip in and out of throughout the retreat

Our flexible itinerary is designed to balance relaxation and adventure. You choose how much (or little) you want to do.

Remember when reading felt like falling into another world, before it became another task on an endless to-do list?

One of Australia’s most significant Georgian era homes,

Calstock Estate in the Meander Valley is exclusively yours.

Nine women, one grand Georgian manor, and a pile of good books.

Nestled beneath the brooding silhouette of the Great Western Tiers, this is your very own chapter of country-house romance - a nod to Pemberley or Thornfield Hall, tucked into northern Tasmania’s rolling green.

Midsummer Nights is designed for the female traveller and devoted book lover and is a retreat from the world. You’ll exhale the moment you’re through the gates.

Calstock Estate will inspire you to unwind. Stroll through twelve acres of formal box hedges, slip behind the weathered brick of the secret walled garden, or lean against centuries-old oaks and elms with Mary Oliver in your pocket. It is private, timeless, and completely swoon-worthy.

Accommodation options

What to expect…

  • Picture candlelit tables dressed in crisp linen and piled high with northern Tasmania’s finest bounties: farmhouse cheeses, artisanal loaves, and orchard-fresh provisions.

  • Gather with women who also harbour towering to-be-read piles, a quiet ache for creative breathing space, and a desire to reclaim their own inner compass.

  • No homework and no expectation. Slip away with Jo March beneath a weeping willow for three uninterrupted hours Virginia Woolf would heartily approve: a room, and an afternoon, entirely of your own.

  • This is your chance to turn down the noise, fill your cup, and write yourself back into the centre of your story.
